New for the Week of June 12

posted Jun 12, 2017, 7:15 AM by Penny Skildum

NEW THIS WEEK

L.I.F.E. is underway at Peace!  Fourteen people interested in “Living In Full Effectiveness” met on May 31 to plan future events of fellowship, entertainment and education.  All are welcome to join us for our first outing of the summer!  On Wednesday June 14, we will meet at the outdoor pavilion at the Shoreview Community Center for the summer kick-off “Concert in the Commons”.  The popular Backyard Band is back, starting at 7:00 p.m. with rockin’ oldies from the 60’s to today’s hits.  Ice cream will be served, compliments of the Shoreview Community Foundation.  Bring your lawn chair, and bring a friend, for this great Shoreview summer tradition!

College graduates:

Tanner Mazanec graduated in May from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Animal Ecology. He is working throughout the country with Western Ecosystems Technology, Inc. (Environmental & Statistical Consultants).

Incarnation Lutheran invites Peace Methodist to be a part of packing one million Feed My Starving Children meals May 1 - 5! Go to www.incarnationmn.org/fmsc to make reservations to volunteer. There are a number of different ways to volunteer for those 5 yrs and older; free childcare is offered for those younger than 5 yrs during the 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. shifts with an advanced reservation. Incarnation is located at 4880 Hodgson Road. For questions, contact Becky Benson at bbenson@incarnationmn.org. Thanks for being a part of this life-saving ministry! #AllHandsOnHope

Another Fifth Sunday is coming.  The Finance Committee has decided to continue the Fifth Sunday Giving Program which was started last year.  Here is the idea:  Most people figure their giving to the church on a monthly basis.  There is anywhere between 3 – 5 fifth Sundays in a year.  So, the fifth Sunday is an EXTRA Sunday.  We are asking you give a little extra on that day.  The full amount collected for “Fifth Sunday” will be paid directly on the principal of the mortgage.  In 2016, we paid $3285.00 from Fifth Sunday giving.  Thank you so much for your generous support.  We are making a difference.

The next Fifth Sunday is April 30, 2017.  All you need to do to participate is bring in a donation marked “Fifth Sunday” in the check memo.  If you will not be at Worship that day, it can be brought earlier or mailed in.  The amount is totally up to you.  No amount is too small or too large.  Thank you in advance.  You are the best.  We can do this!

News for the Week of Feb 6

posted Feb 6, 2017, 7:49 AM by Penny Skildum

Thank you to Peace UMC for being the primary sponsors of the Good Neighbor Center's Tutoring Program Holiday Party. With your help we were able to give gifts to 112 St Paul area youth! That is a new record for us! There was a delicious feast prepared by Pam McFadden & friends, crafts, gifts and a visit from Santa! Peace has been invaluable to the success of the tutoring program.  Thank you! Bob & Amanda

The Good Neighbor Meal on Saturday, February 25, 2017 will be hosted by COSROW (Commission on Status & Role of Women), and we can use your help with making dessert. There is homemade peach pie filling and the recipe for Peach Cobbler available at the Script/Fair Trade counter. If you can make a cobbler, please take 2 jars of the pie filling and a recipe. If able, please make a donation of $10.00/ jar and give it to  Pam Jacobson or just take 2 jars and let  Pam know you will be making a cobbler for 2/25/17. The cobblers can either be brought to the Good Neighbor Center on 2/25/17 by 10 am or talk to Pam about other arrangements.  A sign-up genius will be sent out during the week seeking help with the meal. We’re serving chili, cornbread, salad and peach cobbler. Thank you
