News for the Week of May 9

posted May 9, 2016, 7:40 AM by Penny Skildum

The fifth Sunday is a special day.  It gives us an opportunity to give a little extra.  Here is the idea.  Most people figure their giving to the church on a monthly basis.  Most months have 4 Sundays.  So, the fifth Sunday is an EXTRA Sunday which happens four times a year.  The Finance Committee is asking you to give a little extra on that fifth Sunday, and we will pay that directly on the principal of the mortgage.  Now, we know that will not be the total answer to our debt problem, but it is a start.  Even a small amount paid directly on the principal will save us significant interest every month for the rest of the mortgage.  So here is what you need to do to participate in this program.  On the fifth Sunday of the month, put your contribution in the offering plate and mark “Fifth Sunday” in the memo for a check or on the envelope for cash.  It is as simple as that.  The amount can be as small or as large as you want it to be.  If you are not going to be in church that Sunday, you can bring it earlier or mail it in, but be sure to mark it “Fifth Sunday” or “Mortgage Reduction”

so we know where you want it to go, or we will have to assume it is part of your regular offering.  Don’t forget – Fifth Sundays are special.

The next “Fifth Sunday” is May 29, 2016.
