News For the Week of October 12

Furnace Fund:  During the 2015 spring preventative maintenance check of the church heating and air conditioning equipment, a crack was discovered in the heat exchanger of the furnace that heats the rooms used by the Musical Montessori Preschool. As a cracked heat exchanger can lead to the release of carbon monoxide inside the building, such a failure in a furnace requires that the furnace be replaced. As the problem was discovered after the heating season, the Peace Board of Trustees was able to thoughtfully discuss and make an effective decision to propose to the leadership council to purchase a furnace. The initial commercial bid to replace the existing 80% efficient furnace with a similar furnace was slightly over $4,500. Through the flexibility of the commercial contractor, a company partially owned by former Peace Church member Gary Moen and the volunteer efforts of Jim Kaufer and Tom Jacobson, the church has obtained a 95% efficienct Arcoaire furnace with an installed cost projected at $2,000. At this time, work is almost completed on the furnace installation. Because Peace Church has no capital reserve to draw on and this expense could not be anticipated in the 2015 ministry budget, the Leadership Council has authorized a special campaign to raise the $2,000 needed to cover the cost of this new furnace. Any amount raised in excess of this $2,000 goal will be placed in a capital reserve fund. Please prayerfully consider what you can give above the financial commitment you have already made to the Peace community of faith. Checks for this fund should have “furnace fund” on the memo line. Special envelopes will be provided with the Sunday bulletins and will be available in the Sanctuary Commons area or you can send a check to Peace UMC, 5050 Hodgson Road, St. Paul, MN.

Welcome: You are invited to meet Collin Shorter the son of Nicole & Chris Shorter on Sunday October 18 after worship. Cake, coffee & punch will be provided. Questions contact Pam Jacobson at 651-214-7701.

Silent Auction Notes:  The amount collected so far from the sale of the silent auction items is:  $1,855.  If you have purchased jams, jellies, or pie fillings in glass jars and would like to recycle the jars, please return them to Wayne Leatherman at the Scrip table.  He will see the jar get back to Jenny and Sean Hunt.  They do all the work of filling these jars, and we all appreciate it.  Let us help them out so they do not have to buy so many jars each year.  Thank you!
