Music at Peace is flexible and eclectic. Peace Church has provided wonderful opportunities for children in music – presented fine productions of major musicals like “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and “Jesus Christ Superstar” - and brought the community together to support our local food shelf with special Thanksgiving Food Shelf Benefit Concerts. We had such a positive experience reviving a long-dormant community concert ministry with our Bobby Jo Valentine concert in April 2016 that we have plans to continue this ministry by hosting a concert by Duluth-based musician Sara Thomsen on October 8th, 2016. What’s your idea? What’s your talent? Together, we can find a way for you to bring it to fruitful expression!

Current Music Groups:

The J-Walkers
is a music group for middle school and high school aged youth. In a typical year, the group includes several vocalists, keyboard, drums, bass, electric and acoustic guitars. Often horn players have been included. Each year the rehearsal and performance schedule is formulated based on the needs and interests of the group members. Usually the group provides music leadership for worship several times during the year. In past years, they have led music for Vacation Bible School in the summer and have been involved in local parades, riding a float made specifically for them. Questions should be directed either to the group leader - Steve Ruble, or to Music Ministries Coordinator David Tidball.
  • Our Celebration Chorale (senior choir) is open to anyone who enjoys singing who is high school age and older. The Celebration Chorale sings two Sundays a month, and also presents a special musical worship experience on one of the Sundays of Advent. They rehearse Wednesday evenings from 7:15-8:30 PM. Questions? Want to join the fun?
  • The Praise Singers is a select group that sings periodically for worship, for special occasions and takes musical programs to area retirement and assisted living facilities. Rehearsals follow Celebration Chorale rehearsals on Wednesday evenings.
  • Spirit Singers gather one Sunday per month to lead music for worship in a more contemporary vein.  The group usually includes keyboard, guitars, bass and drums along with assorted instrumentalists and vocalists.  A new invitation is issued each month to form a group, with one rehearsal on the Saturday immediately before the performance Sunday. Questions? Want to be added to the invitation list?
  • Special Summer Music The summer provides an opportunity for musicians of all ages to provide music for worship as soloists or in ensembles. These special music opportunities are coordinated by Music Ministries Coordinator Dave Tidball.
The Ringers of Peace, (high school-adult ages) participate in one worship service per month (September through May) and also occasionally present concerts in the church and in the community. Rehearsals are on Thursdays from 7:00-8:30 PM. Contact Music Ministries Coordinator Dave Tidball if you are interested in having them play for you. The Ringers of Peace have produced a CD titled "A Dazzling Bouquet" as a fundraiser for UMCOR. If you would like to learn more about this project and/or buy a copy please contact us! Thanks!

Anyone who is interested can play handbells at Peace Church. It helps if you can read music and have had some musical training-but this is not required! Anyone who wants to learn will be coached and privately tutored if desired. We invite you to join in the fun! Contact Music Ministries Coordinator Dave Tidball for more information.

Peace church has also had handbell groups for children and youth in the past. For many years, there was also a very active music program (MusiKids) for elementary aged children.  Such groups can be formed again when there is leadership available and adequate interest. Contact Music Ministries Coordinator Dave Tidball if you have children/youth who would be interested in participating in groups like these or if you are a youth/adult who would be willing to provide leadership to a group.
